Hear from two practitioners working on national security issues in the federal government. Andrew Beaty works for the Department of Justice’s National Security Division. Kathleen Cochrane works in the International Affairs Office at the U.S. Department of Treasury, where her portfolio includes evaluating cross-border transactions for national security risks.
Postgraduate fellowships serve as one of the main entry points into a public interest/public service career, and there are many of them! For 2L students thinking about public interest positions that will begin in fall 2023 (as well as 3Ls who will seek a fellowship following a clerkship), it is time to understand the fellowship landscape and begin your planning.

Congratulations, Lars Odland '23, on receiving the Social Justice Legal Foundation Hueston Hennigan Fellowship!
This fellowship allows a Columbia J.D. to spend two years with the Social Justice Legal Foundation, a Los Angeles-based startup nonprofit that brings impactful cases advancing social justice.
As a fellow, Lars will focus on fighting oppression in the carceral system and beyond.
