Miles Lynn is an Associate in the firm's Data, Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. He joined the firm in 2022 after qualifying at US law firm, Covington & Burling LLP and furthering his education in computer science at Imperial College London. Miles has experience advising businesses on privacy and data protection issues across a range of industries, including technology, life sciences, retail, and financial services. His practice covers all aspects of European data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity law, including new and anticipated legislation and policy relating to innovative technologies. His practice primarily consists of regulatory and advisory work. Miles has previous experience working in software engineering and data analytics at large technology companies, such as Google, as well as in smaller technology and fintech startups. In addition, he has worked on several of his own technology companies and fully understands the complex relationship between product and regulation.
Karim Oussayef
Karim Oussayef is a trial lawyer who has represented clients in a wide variety of offensive and defensive technology litigation. He has extensive experience managing complex and fast-paced technology litigations.
Mr. Oussayef recently secured summary judgment of noninfringement for a leading consumer electronics company in patent litigation involving Bluetooth communication technology with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake. Mr. Oussayef is an experienced appellate advocate as well.
Mr. Oussayef earned his law degree from Boston University and studied computer science as an undergraduate at the University of Rochester, where he focused on artificial intelligence. He was president of the debate team, where he was an Academic All-American and competed against schools from across the country. His decision to pursue technology litigation arose from combining those interests.
Before joining Desmarais LLP, Mr. Oussayef was an associate in the Intellectual Property Group at Ropes & Gray LLP.

John Paul litigates trademark and copyright disputes in federal courts throughout the US. He manages international trademark portfolios for clients in a variety of industries – including clearance, prosecution, counseling, and handling matters pending before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) at the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). JP advises on trademark- and copyright-related aspects of corporate transactions. JP also advises clients on cutting edge AI issues, and he is an active member of Cooley’s AI task force.

Hillel I. Parness has been a member of the Columbia Law School adjunct faculty and the school’s Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts since 2002. He teaches a seminar that focuses on the intersection of intellectual property and the Internet, with a particular emphasis on secondary liability in copyright and trademark law. Hillel is the principal and founder of Parness Law Firm, a boutique litigation and intellectual property practice based in New York and New Jersey. Prior to starting his own firm in 2014, Hillel worked at a number of national and international law firms, including Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner, Lovells, and Robins Kaplan Miller & Ciresi. Hillel received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1995, and his A.B. from Columbia College through the Accelerated Interdisciplinary Legal Education Program.
