Student Services

- Complete your Evals; Get a Voucher: Course evaluations will open on Wed. April 20 at 10:00 a.m. On Tues. April 26 and Wed. April 27, Student Services will be handing out vouchers for a free beverage from Scholastic on the first floor of William June Warren Hall. More details to follow.

- Review Your Degree Requirements Status (DRS): As you apply to different experiential learning opportunities, please keep in mind that there are certain limits on the number of non-regularly scheduled courses that you can count toward the 83 points required for graduation (for example, externship fieldwork, teaching fellowships, supervised research/experiential projects, moot court coaching, and non-law school courses). A more detailed description of these limits can be found in J.D. Rule 1.1.3 for the Class of 2023. You can review the “Degree Requirements Status” tool (DRS) in LawNet at any time to audit your graduation progress.

- Food Drive for Broadway Community - Tues. April 19 to Friday, April 22, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in Big Warren, 4th Floor, Student Lounge. The Office of Student Services is partnering with Broadway Community to host a food drive. Donations accepted are canned meats, hot cereal, canned tomato products, dried legumes, personal hygiene items, cooking oil, cleaning supplies, juice, pasta, peanut butter, and dried whole grains. Items must be unopened and sealed. Please do not donate perishable items.
There will be a box labeled "FOOD DRIVE" for drop-offs.

- Conversation with Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the SDNY - Wed. April 20, 12:10-1:10 p.m. in JG 103. In this special event, the newly appointed United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, will sit down for an interview with Prof. Jessica Bulman-Pozen. Williams will address such topics as his path to becoming the first Black US Attorney for the district, the challenges of leading an independent office in an age of polarization, and his creation of a civil rights unit with the SDNY. Lunch will be provided first-come, first-served. Sponsored by the Lawyers, Community, and Impact series, the Vice Dean of Intellectual Life, and the Office of Student Services.

- The Tasks of Critical Race Theory: Brandon Terry in conversation with Kendall Thomas - Thur. April 21, 4:00-5:00 p.m. in JG 107 (NOTE UPDATED TIME). In this special lecture, renowned scholar Brandon Terry will be joined by Prof. Kendall Thomas to discuss the relationship of critical race theory (CRT) to liberal political thought and the social contract tradition. Terry will present new work in which he challenges Charles W. Mills's influential conception of the tasks of CRT, and argues that Toni Morrison's competing vision of CRT gives us a better approach to understanding the place of race in liberal thought. Professor Thomas will provide commentary on Terry's lecture. Sponsored by the Columbia Center for Contemporary Critical Thought, Lawyers, Community and Impact series, the Vice Dean of Intellectual Life, and the Office of Student Services.

Quantifying Gerrymandering: How Redistricting Policies Set Boundaries on Extreme Gerrymandering Davis Polk Leadership Initiative Grant Recipient Onuoha Odim will host a Zoom event with Professor Gregory Herschlag from Duke University to discuss voting rights, redistricting, and gerrymandering. The event is part of Onuoha's independent project, Centerforvotingrights.org.
